The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB has asked the parents of candidates sitting the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination to stay away from Computer-Based Centres. The JAMB Registrar, Prof Is-haq Oloyede, who said this on Monday in Abuja while monitoring the Mock UTME at the Kogo and Veritas University CBT centres, noted that some parents had formed the habit of hanging around the centres to engage in examination malpractice. JAMB Registrar, Prof Is-haq Oloyede said: “We urge parents to keep away from CBT centres. We are preparing people for university education, but the parents come around too often. They want their children or their wards to pass at all costs. “This practice is not helpful because they will not follow these candidates to the lecture rooms. A major crack has appeared in the ranks of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) as the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife branch, at the weekend, decided to pull out of the national body to form a new union. The decision to pull out of ASUU national by OAU branch was taken at a congress held on February 12, when it rejected the resolutions of ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on the face-off between it and the parent body over an internal crisis. Other reasons given by OAU branch to form a new union are the unilateral removal of the elected treasurer by ASUU national president and the alleged transfer of N11 million from OAU branch account to ASUU national account. The congress noted that the removal of the duly elected treasurer and transfer of N11 million prompted majority of members to request that their check off dues usually remitted to ASUU national be stopped. The president of a budget Spanish airline claims Barcelona’s airport is unable to expand as planes are not allowed to fly over Lionel Messi’s house. Vueling chief Javier Sanchez-Prieto, via Marca, claims the area of Castelldefels where Messi and other Barca stars live, on the outskirts of Barcelona, has an environmental restriction over it. It’s located just 10km away from the airport, one of the busiest in Europe. Airline bosses were hoping to add more runways in order to allow extra movement in and out of the city. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Thursday released the results of the just-conducted Mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The board’s Head, Media and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin, disclosed this in an interview with the Newsmen on Thursday in Lagos. According to him, candidates are to check their results on line by visiting www.jamb.org.ng with their registration numbers. Benjamin described the conduct of the examination nationwide as hitch-free. NAN reports that a total of 245,753 candidates registered for the mock examination which took place on Monday. Mock UTME is optional for UTME candidates. The main UTME is expected to hold from  March 9 to March 17.

The video showed some men bounded by the sect while being whipped mercilessly amid cheers from a local crowd.
